Independent Research Shows Promising Evidence for Sound Start Literacy

An independent study conducted by LXD Research examined first-grade literacy outcomes following two years of school-wide Sound Start Literacy implementation. Researchers compared students receiving Sound Start with a pre-implementation cohort from the same classrooms who were using another popular structured literacy program and adjusted the analysis for students' beginning-of-year reading performance. ​ The study found statistically significant improvements in key early literacy outcomes Oral Reading Fluency and Phonemic Segmentation Fluency. The percentage of first graders scoring above benchmark increased from 39% before implementation to 76% in Year 2. Read the full reports by clicking the link below.
